TOPIC: Politics and Mental Health
Anyone can see that something has changed in our experiences and practices of politics. Life or death has been created, me against your all-or-nothing attitude and perspective of political orientation. The question is, “Is this attitude healthy?” Is it healthy to make horrible statements about friends, family, and other Americans? As a therapist, I have had clients tell me, ‘I ended my friendship with my childhood friend because of whom they voted for,” or family members who stated, “I have disowned my son, daughter, wife, mother, or husband because of their political orientation.” What does this mean?
